Another thing that helps is to better understand how to use the best FREE source of all - Google. By becoming a better searcher overall and squeezing all the value one can out of the web, it will be easier to know when there is a need to subscribe. The book Google Your Family Tree helps with exactly this task. Hope you find it helpful.
